Yes - that's the point of BYO meter. ampee accepts the same style of push at api.ampee.io/push/solar-data. Grab your key from your ampee account, repoint your existing feed, and you're charging on solar again. No new hardware.
Which countries is ampee available in?
The US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and a growing list of others. If you're on solar and losing ChargeHQ, you're very likely covered - and if your country isn't live yet, tell us and we'll prioritize it.
ChargeHQ was a paid app too - what makes ampee any safer?
Fair question. ChargeHQ was a solid paid product and still got shut down after it was acquired and its owner's priorities shifted. ampee is independent, and solar-aware charging is our entire focus - not a feature inside a bigger platform that can be folded away. It's a straightforward subscription built to keep running for the long haul.
Do I need to buy hardware?
Not for a Tesla - ampee talks to it directly. For other cars, you pair an OCPP-capable wall charger, which controls the charge amperage. No proprietary box.
What if ampee ever goes down?
It fails open: if ampee can't reach your car, your EV just charges on its own settings. You only lose the solar optimization, never the charge. We still suggest keeping your car's built-in schedule as a backstop.
