ampee
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
ampee ("we", "our", "us") is a solar-aware EV charging service that automatically charges your electric vehicle from surplus solar power. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with. We do not sell your personal data.
Data We Collect
- Account & identity — your email address, name, and the account identifier from the sign-in provider you choose (Tesla, Google, or Apple).
- Vehicle data — via the Tesla Fleet API or your vehicle brand's API (for supported brands such as Rivian, Polestar, Ford, Volvo, and Lucid): your vehicle's identifier (e.g. VIN), model or display name, and charge state (battery level, charging status, and charge rate). Used to monitor and control charging.
- Vehicle location — approximate latitude/longitude, used only to detect when your vehicle is at home and to fetch a local solar forecast. Coordinates are sent to a weather service (Open-Meteo) without any account identifiers.
- Solar & energy-system data — real-time solar production and home-consumption readings from your inverter (Enphase, SolarEdge, Fronius, Solarman and compatible hybrids, Growatt, or your Tesla energy site) or energy monitor (Sense, Emporia Vue), and home-battery state of charge where present.
- EV charger data — if you connect a smart charger over OCPP, its status and charging data, used to set the charge rate.
- Utility & rate information — your utility, rate plan, and import/export rates, used to calculate savings. Rate-plan data is sourced from public databases (OpenEI / NREL).
- Charging history — energy delivered, solar-vs-grid split, timing, and estimated savings per session, retained so you can review past sessions.
- Push notification token — to send charging alerts, via Expo, Apple (APNs), or Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Payment information — ampee is free during beta, so no payment data is collected. If paid plans launch, subscriptions would be processed by Stripe (web) or Apple (in-app purchase), and we would store only a customer/subscription reference — never your full card number.
- Device & diagnostic data — the platform you use (iOS, Android, or web) and basic logs used to operate and debug the service. When the app encounters an error or crash, we capture a diagnostic report through our error-monitoring provider (Sentry). This may include a brief session replay — a reconstruction of the app screens leading up to the error — recorded only when an error occurs. All on-screen text, images, and graphics (including any location shown on the map or power-flow view) are masked, so the replay does not reveal your personal data.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to operate ampee: monitoring your solar production, adjusting your vehicle's charge rate toward available surplus, enforcing the limits and preferences you configure, sending charging notifications, calculating savings, and providing account and subscription features. We do not sell, rent, or use your data for third-party advertising.
AI Features
When you use ampee's optional AI insights or recommendations, relevant charging and energy data (such as recent sessions, rates, and solar production) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (the Claude API), to generate a response. This data is processed only to answer your request and is not used to train AI models.
Data Storage & Security
Data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The database is encrypted at rest, and sensitive credentials — vehicle and OEM tokens, inverter and energy-monitor credentials, and charger tokens — are additionally encrypted at the application layer before storage. Access is protected by your ampee session token.
Third-Party Services
We share data with the following services only as needed to provide ampee:
- Tesla Fleet API and other vehicle-brand APIs (Rivian, Polestar, Ford, Volvo, Lucid, and others) — vehicle monitoring and charge control
- Inverter and energy-monitor providers (Enphase, SolarEdge, Fronius, Solarman, Growatt, Sense, Emporia) — solar and consumption data
- Open-Meteo — local solar/weather forecast (location only, no identifiers)
- OpenEI / NREL — public utility rate data
- Anthropic — optional AI features
- Stripe and Apple — subscription payments
- Expo, Apple, and Google (Firebase) — push notifications
- Amazon Web Services — cloud hosting
- Sentry — error and crash diagnostics, including masked, error-triggered session replays
Shared & Household Vehicles
If a vehicle is connected to more than one ampee account (for example, a household sharing a car), that vehicle's charging status and settings may be visible to each connected account.
Deleting Your Account & Data
You can permanently delete your ampee account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app: open Settings and tap Delete account, then confirm. This immediately and permanently removes your account and everything tied to it — your vehicles, charging and energy history, connected inverter, charger, and vehicle credentials, support requests, and settings. This action cannot be undone.
If you are unable to access the app, you can request deletion by emailing hello@ampee.io from your account email address. You can additionally revoke ampee's access to your vehicle or energy accounts from those providers' own security pages — for example, Tesla's Third-Party Apps page (Tesla app → Settings → Security).
Cookies
The ampee app does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our website uses only cookies strictly necessary to load and secure the site; we do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or sell data.
